Windows NT - Checking the NT backup log file

this procedure will tell you how to check the backup log file for the NT backup software.
requirements
before using this procedure you will need
- The location of the folder containing your backup log file.
- Your backup log sheet. Click here to download a backup log sheet.
procedure
- Open the folder containing your backup log file and double-click on it.
- Note for Windows 95, 98 and ME users: If the backup log file is too big to open in Notepad, Windows will try to open the file using Wordpad. There is a possibility that Wordpad will not be able to open the file if there has been an error during the backup.
- Go to the bottom of the file (you can hold down the [Ctrl] key and press the [End] key to do this quickly.
- Read the last few lines of the backup log file.
- Scan up the file to see whether there appear to be any errors in the file.
- If there are errors in the file then...
- Go to the backup computer and check whether the backup software is still showing. If it is then write down any error messages that have appeared and close the software.
- Complete the online 'backup failure form'.
- Close the backup log file.
- Delete the backup log file.
- Circle 'OK' or 'Not OK' in the 'Result' column of your backup log sheet.
- Write your name or initials in the 'Checked by' column of your backup log sheet.
